Shakespeare for Teens

Age: 14-18 years old (13 year old may join with approval)
Cost: $200
.5 language arts or elective credit
Many parents love the idea of teaching their kids Shakespeare, but don't know where to start. Shakespeare for Teens is a perfect way to engage your teen in the history, geography, text, and life of William Shakespeare. Shakespeare's works are most fun when experienced with peers. We will use active learning to explore universal stories and themes that are still pertinent in today's world. By studying the Sonnets, one tragedy (Hamlet), and one comedy (Twelfth Night), students will deepen their language, gain a sense of themselves, and discover the universality of the human condition. Fun and engaging activities coupled with "The Queen's Challenges" will give your students more confidence when entering the world of The Bard.
By the end of the semester, students will understand the difference between intent and interpretation and have the confidence to share a scene and monologue at our "Night with the Bard" event.
Classical Theater will be offered for the second semester for an additional .5 elective credit.
